I am so glad that I had the pleasure to interview Lee, he is an awesome guy! Enjoy :)
Q;Since I'm a band geek I'll start off by asking if you were in your school band?
A;In school, I was never in band. However, I was voted "Most Musical" in my yearbook.
When did you become interested in poetry and what inspired you to write your first poem?
I first became interested in poetry through my friend, Pepe Parish, a member of Third Class. Though I had been exposed to it a lot, growing up with very literary parents, Pepe turned my attention to poetry by being courageous enough to write notebooks full of poems when he was a kid. Unfortunately, I don't specifically remember my first poem, but I'm sure the inspiration was probably childhood.
How do you feel your poetry influences your music?
Poetry influences our music a lot. Many songs start as poems. Also, as a tribute to the the great poet William Carlos Williams, we named one of our albums after his poem, The Red Wheelbarrow.
What instruments do you play?
In Third Class, I play keyboard, guitar, and lead vocals. I started on drums.
What genre would you place Third Class in?
Third Class' genre has often been called Quirk-Pop.
Who are your musical influences?
My musical influences are Curtis Mayfield, Radiohead, John Hall & Daryl Oates, Laura Nyro, The Presidents Of The United States Of America, Ben Folds Five and, more recently, The Mountain Goats and Daniel Johnston.
How many other bands have you been in?
I have been in no other bands but Third Class. I have sat in on other projects plenty of times, but I have never been a full-time member of any other band.
What is the favorite show you've played? Who would your dream show be with?
My favorite show we've played is a show we played this year at a bowling alley in Cleveland. Our dream show would probably be as an opening act for Ben Folds Five.
Is there anything else you would like to add? Thank you so much for helping me out with my Genius Hour Project!
Thank you for being so kind as to interview me about Third Class. If anyone reads this and is intrigued, I'd just like to let them know that they can find us on www.thirdclass.net.
